JOHN LAUTNER'S HATHERALL HOUSE IN SUNLAND

The Heatherall house, designed by John Lautner, was built in 1958. The
plan was to build a low maintenance fireproof house with a patio, pool,
a rolling bed for sleeping outside next to the pool, a den, study,
workshop and guest room. The house was constructed of concrete block
with a steel framed dome, with a skylight in the center, covering the
living area. The living area opens to a courtyard walled on three
sides to provide extra privacy. The master bedroom has a moving wall
to open or close it off from the living room. When built the house had
solar collectors operating 80 per cent of the time and radiant floor
 heating.
